Saturday 27th March sees the launch of a new Zero Waste shopping experience at the former premises of Crawford’s Biscuit Factory in Anderson Place, Leith. Situated off Bonnington Road, the space has been used as an art venue for some time but will now host the ethical shopping project called Beautiful Planetthat is the brainchild of Pawel Ferguson.
Caring for the environment and zero waste has been an early passion for Ferguson who has retained that lifelong commitment to doing his bit to help the planet. His long-held ambition to open a zero waste shop came to fruition during lockdown in 2021 and Beautiful Planet is the result.Already a keen cook as well as a vegan, Ferguson hopes to share his passion with customers in Edinburgh and beyond, bringing his 10 years’ experience in the hospitality and retail industries to the table. He is offering a focussed and ethical approach to the running of Beautiful Planet by working with local and independent suppliers and producers.
Ferguson said, “Ethical household goods are just some of the things Beautiful Planet has to offer. The days of buying from the supermarket should be a thing of the past and the use of single use plastics also. We have not reinvented the wheel – just offer our own approach and style on the supply of zero waste shopping – online, by delivery or in person collection. Beautiful Planet offers a happy and welcoming shop and we cannot wait to meet all our customers.”
The concept, that’s shared by the growing number of ethical shops across the city and beyond, means that Beautiful Planetwill stock a large range of foods that can be weighed and packed in customers’ own containers as well as drinks, oils and infused oils, detergents, laundry products and dog products – a range not readily available elsewhere.
Among the range of Scottish produce is food and drink from Green City Wholesale, Glasgow; cosmetics from Deeside Lavender, Aberdeenshire; Just Crisps and Oil direct from an independent farmer and Edinburgh based Santu Coffee andEteaket tea company.
Products can be purchased online for next day delivery by bicycle or click and collect as well as walk-ins instore on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 5pm. Regular pop-up days will be announced weekly on their social media channels.
Beautiful Planet, that looks to be a great green asset to Leith, launches onSaturday 27th March between 10am and 5pm.
