Work from Photography Graduates from Across Scotland to Be Shown in Central Belt

FUTUREPROOF is an annual showcase of new talent in photographic image making, selected from across Scotland’s photography and fine art degree courses. Each year this landmark exhibition reflects the range of approaches and subject matter from recent graduates, celebrating photography as a versatile form of creative expression.

Returning for its 14th year, FUTUREPROOF will take place in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, celebrating some of the photographic work emerging from the BA Photography and Fine Art degrees shows of the colleges, universities and art schools across Scotland.

Director at Street Level Photoworks, Malcolm Dickson, said “Since 2008 FUTUREPROOF has demonstrated the increasing diversity of creative photographic art practice from across Scotland’s BA fine art and photography degree courses. As their numbers have increased – both in terms of courses available and in students undertaking them – so has our commitment to an inclusive approach both geographically and in the aesthetics embraced. It’s an endorsement of photography’s versatility to see this sector grow with such confidence and we are delighted that Stills will partner again this year. It is a celebration in every sense.”

Each of the selected artists has expressed their styles and approaches to the medium of photography, exploring both traditional and alternative methods of picture-making, alongside artist-made books and other mediums.

Initiated in 2008 by Street Level Photoworks, the inaugural exhibition featured the work of four artists from Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh Napier University and Glasgow School of Art. Since then, the exhibition has grown both in terms of geographical spread and the number of graduates featured and has established itself as a key exhibition within contemporary photography from Scotland.

Director of Stills, Ben Harman, said “We are really happy to be hosting another exhibition of work showcasing a selection of new talent in photography, chosen from degree courses across Scotland. The importance of this kind of exhibition lies in the support and encouragement that we are able to give to photographers at such an early stage of their careers. The exhibition in 2021 was a great success but this year it feels like FUTUREPROOF is needed more than ever. This is one of the reasons why we have teamed up with Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow to present the exhibition across both our gallery spaces…”

Exhibition runs from 12th November 2022 – 29th January 2023 at Street Level Photoworks Trongate 103, Glasgow G1 5HD and from11th November 2022 – 28th January 2023 at Stills: Centre for Photography, 23 Cockburn Street, Edinburgh EH1 1BP
