Zinnie Harris to Step Down as Associate Artistic Director of Edinburgh’s Lyceum

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh and Zinnie Harris have announced her stepping down as the Associate Artistic Director at the theatre, a role she first took in 2022.  Having   joined the Lyceum as Associate Director in 2020, she has since acted as Interim Director of Creative Learning since 2024. 

Artistic Director and CEO James Brining said “Zinnie is one of Scotland’s foremost theatre artists and we’ve been fortunate to have benefitted from her influence and creative energy at The Lyceum. Zinnie has been an extraordinary artistic force and her imagination, intelligence and commitment to the work have enriched our stage and inspired colleagues and audiences alike. We are deeply grateful for everything she has brought to the theatre, and I look forward very much to continuing to work with her here at The Lyceum in the future.” 

During her time at the Lyceum, Zinnie has been a key creative presence, having written and directed award-winning and critically-acclaimed productions including the epic adaptation Macbeth (an undoingwhich toured to the Rose Theatre in London and Theatre for a New Audience in New York; Duchess (of Malfi)which had a subsequent run on London’s West End, and directing aNumber by Caryl Churchill which won a CATs award for Best Director.  

Zinnie Harris said “I’ve loved my time at The Lyceum. It has been a privilege to work with such brilliant artists, creative teams and audiences. The theatre is a place of real ambition and care, and the staff are committed and dedicated to delivering extraordinary theatre. Alongside the productions I have written and directed, I am particularly proud of the Creative Learning team, and what we have achieved together during the past couple of years. I wish everyone at The Lyceum all the best and look forward to what comes next.”

Zinnie will be launching projects, including directing her new play Supposing for the Traverse this Festival.  She will remain a friend of the Lyceum, where she will return in her role as writer and director in a large–scale production to be announced for the Lyceum 2026/27 season with further details about upcoming artistic plans to be announced in due course.
