Over two weekends in May, the Bright & Wild 2023 festival will celebrate the talent and creativity of young people from Greater Craigmillar (Edinburgh) who are taking part in Lyra’s Young Artists programme.
The festival will showcase four new productions that the Young Artists commissioned themselves, through the company’s child-led approach. This approach saw the children shortlisting proposals and inviting Artists to pitch their ideas, before selecting their chosen commissions. The children have been collaborating with their Lead Artists since October 2022 and have been creating and devising together since then to bring these new productions to life.
Lyra’s Engagement Producer Anna Plasberg-Hill said “We’re delighted to be presenting our third annual Bright & Wild festival, giving a platform to the creativity of the children we work with and the fantastic Lead Artists that they’ve commissioned. Year on year, the participants continue to inspire the Lyra team and it’s a joy to see them building their skills and self-esteem, whilst making brilliant work”
The festival will kick off with a curtain raiser by Lyra’s Young Company, who will share part of their next production, that will premiere at Artspace later this year. The festivals events are produced and hosted by Lyra’s Culture Crew, a group of teens learning backstage and creative producing skills at Lyra.
