Eden Court Inverness Announces Under Canvas Outdoor Festival

Eden Court, the multi-arts venue set in the Highland capital of Inverness, announces the return of its annual outdoor summer festival, Under Canvas, that started back in 2018. Co-curated with Fèis Rois, the organisation that enables to participate in and enjoy traditional music and the Gaelic arts, Under Canvas will run from 1st July till  30th  September 2021 on the lawns at Eden Court beside the  banks of the River Ness.

The family-friendly event returns in a newly designed tent by Becky Minto and Kate Bonney, that is twice the size of the previous venue and will host live music sessions, performance and DJ sets, a bar serving local beers, gins and whisky and an outdoor pizza oven while ensuring a safe experience for audiences, performers and staff.

Throughout July, contemporary folk and Scottish traditional music take centre stage Wednesday to Friday with artists including Mairearad Green, Anna Massie, Project SMOK, Gary Innes and Ewen Henderson, FRAS, Man of the Minch, Amy Henderson Trio and Assynt among others. Most Saturday evenings will see resident DJ Karawane spinning discs while Sunday afternoons feature a mix of musical genres and literary offerings, from performance poetry and author panels to classical music, blues and jazz.

Producer for Gaelic and Traditional Arts at Eden Court, Seona McClintock, said “Under Canvas is the festival we’ve all been waiting for. Eden Court’s front lawn will burst into life from July, when the very best of Scottish folk and traditional music will be brought to our iconic stretch tent for audiences to enjoy. As ever, Gaelic music and song is a key part of the programme and we’re really proud to be showcasing queer and LGBT+ voices as part of a wonderfully diverse line-up of musical talent. We’re also broadening the programme into more poetry and literary events on Sundays and we hope we’re offering everyone a reason to come along.”

Under Canvas celebrates the best of Scottish traditional and Gaelic music having welcomed some of the biggest names to the stage, and offers key performance opportunities to young musicians still developing their craft. Eden Court is delighted Tailormade Moves is supporting Under Canvas as Emerging Talent Sponsor helping to showcase these up-and-coming young performers.

In addition to the monthly programmes, there are a number of specially curated events throughout the summer with the full programme available on the Eden Court website.

Audiences can secure tickets to sessions from 4pm to 7pm or from 8pm to 11pm each week from Wednesday to Saturday. Sunday sessions run 2pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 8pm.
