Midway through this coming advent, Edinburgh’s Dovecot Studios, whose building was formerly home to the auld toun’s Victorian public baths, will present Merry Makers Market. The Yuletide event will feature work from twenty designers and makers, that offers a chance to buy gifts while supporting the local creative community whether it’s textiles, homeware, skincare, jewellery or accessories. Throughout the open areas of the Studios and Tapestry Viewing Balcony, visitors will be able to safely browse the work of a range of contemporary makers.
During this turbulent time for the retail sector Merry Makers Market will be a chance to celebrate local talent and to support independent businesses through this platform for the creative industry facilitated by Dovecot, whose all year policy is to showcase the best in contemporary art, craft and design.
Running alongside will be Dovecot’s current exhibition – Mid Century Modern: Art and Design from Conran to Quant – that looks at some of those in the vanguard of the art, design and fashion of post war Britain. Both events will benefit from the various safety measures in place that include timed entry; a one way system; sanitising stations and the use of face coverings.
Participating artists and designers in Merry Makers Market include:
Bryony Knox; Cora Studio; Dwelling Bird; Emily Millichip; Gilly Langton; Green Thomas; Jacqueline Bell; Jenny Deans; Lucky Cloud; Lynsey Walters; NMARRA; Pick One; Simone Nolden and Tessuuti.
Opening Times of Merry Makers Market are:
