Like every arts venue in the land, the Honest Toun’s wee gem of a venue, The Brunton, has had to cancel its annual pantomime. This year, it was to have been a production of panto favourite, Aladdin.
The temporary cancellation will be a great disappointment to the folks in East Lothian to miss the Yuletide tradition that always provides cosy, local, inclusive family fun.
Following Government advice, and keeping customer and staff safety to the fore, the Brunton has had to consider reducing audience sizes for live performances which of course would impact on the immense amount of shouting and cheering that goes on during the panto, particularly in the relatively small auditorium. The Brunton Theatre Trust has therefore come to make the difficult decision to postpone Aladdin till 2021.
Chair of The Brunton Theatre Trust, Michael Stitt said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the postponement of our 2020 pantomime. The Brunton Panto is a much loved tradition that is central to many people’s festive celebrations, a tradition that we enjoy bringing to life every year. We are aware that, although this is the right decision to take, it affects many; the cast, crew, and creatives that make the show every year, The Brunton staff and of course our wonderful audiences who join us to shout out at the baddies and laugh along with the Dame.
So let’s think of it merely as a postponement, not a cancellation of our treasured Panto. Aladdin will be with us bigger and better for the festive season 2021!
Thank you from everyone at The Brunton for your continued support and understanding.”
Aladdin will now run from Tuesday 23 November 2021 until Friday 31 December 2021. Oh yes it will!
