In another initiative from the arts world during lockdown, UK comedy club Just the Tonic is bringing the comedy club experience to millions with a new LIVE comedy night called Working from Home.
Streaming live via Just the Tonic TV, this third episode of the show will be compered by Darrell Martin who will introduce guests including Kerry Godliman, Jason Manford, Naomi Cooper, Andrew Bird and Phil Ellis, to name just a few.
To re-create the one-off experience of a comedy night, the gig, that’s available to watch on tablets, phones, laptops and desktops, will be streamed LIVE only. Like a live show, you’ll have to be there (or be square?!)
Log in around 8.30pm on Saturday 13th June (also National Gin Day) and get the drinks and snacks sorted if needed and enjoy the specially selected playlist straight from Darrell Martin’s jukebox that will include some breaks for nipping to the loo or the fridge! As it’s better to laugh in company, audiences are encouraged to create their own watching parties.
Darrell Martin’s acclaimed Just the Tonic began in Nottingham over 25 years ago, when it was playing host to countless up-and-coming comics as well as the most established names throughout the UK. It is now one of the leading comedy venues in the UK and has enjoyed a strong presence at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Darrell Martin says, “This will be our 3rd streamed show. … Don’t expect a normal stand-up show; the world has changed, and stand-up is a format for being in a room with people and all the atmosphere that comes with it. We are not trying to recreate that, so join us with an open mind. The show is a mixture of chats & interviews, surprise little sketches, the odd phone call to other comedians, some pre-recorded bits and some live chin-wagging. …this is essentially a bunch of friends getting together to make you laugh and have a great Saturday evening in.”
Tickets are from £5 and date is Saturday 13 June from 8.30pm with the gig starting at 9pm.
Just the Tonic also announces Rich Hall and Henning Wehn for Saturday 27 June. Please see Just the Tonic website for full details.
