Ship Ahoy! New Production of Treasure Island Set to Voyage Round Scotland

This Autumn sees a uniquely Scottish adaptation retelling by Ross MacKay, formerly of the wonderful Tortoise in a Nutshell,  of  Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.  The family adventure show, that’s suitable for ages 5+ will tour Scotland to enchant wee ones and their companions.

This version, that introduces young audiences to a world full of adventure, taking them  on a journey that brings the classic story to life through toys, furniture and other objects in the room, is produced by the company behind the award-winning Polar Bears,Scottish Theatre Producers. With set and costume by Becky Minto and music from Turkish composer Oğuz Kaplangi looks like Scotland’s weans are in for a treat!

Local lad Robbie Stevenson prefers to hide away from the world inside the pages of his favourite book, Treasure Island. But with a little bit of imagination, the book comes to life, and he is thrust aboard. Robbie soon finds that you can’t stay hiding forever when he must learn to navigate his own course, and to discover the world is full of treasure, if you’re brave enough to look.

Writer Ross MacKay said “I am delighted that audiences across the length and breadth of Scotland will have the chance to take to the seas and share in the adventure. I always wanted to adapt Treasure Island and I am over the moon to be working with such an incredible team to bring this magical story to life in a unique adaptation. I hope this show inspires people young and old to show that with a bit of bravery and a dash of imagination treasure can be found anywhere.”

Treasure Island funded by Creative Scotland Touring Fund and Sponsored by Northlink Ferries, Treasure Island was originally produced by Cumbernauld Theatre  and Visible Fictions.
