Curious Seed is an award-winning Edinburgh based performance company formed in 2005 by Scottish choreographer Christine Devaney, producing dance theatre work that questions the world we live in.
Following a limited run at Dance Base in August 2019, Curious Seed can announce a Spring 2024 tour of And the Birds Did Sing, created and performed by Christine Devaney. Blending contemporary dance and storytelling, And the Birds Did Sing is an intimate solo dance theatre work, performed with an evocative soundtrack, poetic text and ethereal set design that leads the audience on a poignant journey. It is loosely structured around creator and performer Christine Devaney’s childhood memories, and is made in collaboration with musician Luke Sutherland and artist Yvonne Buskie,
And the Birds Did Sing, that won a Herald Angel Award at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and was runner up for the Scottish Arts Award, speaks to universal human themes of growing up, life and death, the passing of time and love. Holding a delicate balance between sadness and joy, this Herald Angel award-winning performance incorporates dance, spoken word, visuals, and music, with humour and tenderness.
Devaney herself said “I’m so looking forward to going back to this work. The world and I have changed since we first shared the story of Birdie in 2019, so I’m excited and intrigued by what we’ll discover afresh in the work as we share it with audiences across Scotland.”
As part of the tour, Curious Seed will engage in an informal celebration with a local artistic community entitled Staying On. It will involve inviting artists to share readings of their own work of poems, prose, music and song at a curated gathering to follow the performance.
