Boris & Sergey’s Christmas Cabaret Comes to the Roxy!

Even before St Andrew’s Day has had a chance to be marked, Scotland’s Capital is already gearing to full traditional (in the real sense of trees and Santas and in the modern sense of sideshows and markets) festive mode. But this December a different part of the festive shenanigans awaits in the Auld Toun’s Roxburgh Place thanks to London based Flabbergast Theatre.

Known as the Balkan Bad-Boys of puppetry, Boris & Sergey will host a Christmas celebration like no other with Boris & Sergey’s Christmas Cabaret that is Flabbergast Theatre’s unique take on A Christmas Carol.

Headlining the show is Dublin-based acrobatic performer Sahsa Khron, who performs an aerial straps act and joins the little faceless puppets and their loyal puppeteers with other Flabbergast creations old and new, including the magical silent clown, Tatterdemalion and maybe a little of The Swell Mob who invite audiences to submerge themselves in the delights of `19th century debauchery. Among all this will be Boris and Sergey as they present A Christmas Carol – although the two may be slightly at odds with regards to the morals and focus of the original Dickens’ tale.

Boris & Sergey’s Christmas Cabaret is suitable for anyone in the mood for some twisted festive cheer and equally suitable for those who prefer their carols immersed in chaos.

Formed in 2010, Flabbergast was conceived to make exciting theatre rooted in physicality and devising with a belief that all theatre should be vital, engaging and accessible. They are committed to exploration of all theatrical styles adding to its reputation in puppetry, physical comedy and physical theatre while exploring other expressions and pedagogy such as Butoh, Grotowski, Lecoq and Mask, garnering 4 and 5 star reviews across the board for their efforts.

So for those with a preference for anarchic festive cheer, why not celebrate in style than Boris & Sergey’s Christmas Cabaret?

Roxy Theatre, Central, 2 Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh, EH8 9SU.
